Details of family:- Dr. G. Shrinivasa Acharya was born on May 4, 1962 in Udupi District, Karnataka, India. He comes from family with Ayurveda background, with his father being a renowned Ayurveda practitioner. Dr. Acharya’s father’s influence played a significant role in shaping his career path. This exposure inspired Dr. Acharya to pursue his journey in the field.
Educational Qualifications:-
He attended Christian High School Udupi for his matriculation and Poornaprajna College Udupi for pre-university education. After this, he joined one of the premier institutes of Ayurveda Education, SDM Ayurveda College Udupi, in 1979 for his undergraduate degree. After completing his undergraduate degree with a gold medal for 1st rank from Mysore University, he joined IPGT and RA, Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar, to pursue a postgraduate degree.
Journey as an Accomplished Teacher:- Dr. G. S. Acharya started his career as an Assistant Professor at SDM College of Ayurveda, Udupi, and then worked as an Associate professor for a period of 6 years (1999–2005). He later advanced to the position of Professor of Kayachikitsa at SDM College of Ayurveda Udupi, where he served for more than 16 years. His continuous efforts and innovations in teaching and clinical practice led him to become the Principal of SDM College of Ayurveda Udupi in 2018, where he implemented his novel ideas in academics.
Promoting Integrated Ayurveda Learning and Clinical Excellence
Throughout his teachings, he consistently stressed the importance of adopting an integrated approach to comprehending Ayurvedic principles to gain a more profound understanding of Ayurveda. The introduction of the integration concept in the curriculum has instilled a valuable idea in the minds of students, which is implemented and observed in some of the prestigious academic institutions today. At the onset of computer usage, he commenced utilizing PowerPoint and Flash presentations to showcase his innovative teaching methods. He was adept at imparting clinical skills and motivating the students to handle a diverse range of cases confidently.
Remarkable Endeavors as a Clinician:- With over 3 decades of clinical practice, he had vast experience in treating a wide range of diseases, such as autoimmune disorders, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, arthritis, skin conditions, neurological conditions, stress management, and rejuvenation therapies. Employing Rasayana Chikitsa for the treatment of challenging cases was a distinctive area of expertise for him. He was able to develop 12 different Rasayanas in the right dosage with careful consideration of palatability and ease of administration. His noteworthy contributions include Bala Rasayana, Shatavari Rasayana, Loha Rasayana, Lashuna Rasayana, and Yastimadhu Rasayana. The proper application of classical guidelines for Laja Takra Prayoga and Parpati Prayoga is among the other significant areas of expertise.
Integrating Modern Diagnostics with Ayurvedic Principles for Effective Patient Care:- The significance of contemporary diagnostic techniques, such as ECG, X-ray, and ultrasonography, in expedited detection and reduced damage to patients was a key consideration in his practice. By combining traditional Ayurvedic principles with modern medical knowledge and technology, Dr. Acharya provided effective treatment plans to bring long-term health benefits to his patients. During his clinical practice, he consistently advised his students to center their skills on the welfare of their patients.
Publications:-
Prof. G. S. Acharya has authored numerous articles that have been published in prestigious national and international journals. One of his notable contributions is the book titled “Illustrated Panchakarma,” which provides a comprehensive overview of the ancient Ayurvedic detoxification therapy. He has made notable contributions to the publication titled “Integrative Medicine – Principles for Practice.
Awards and Honours:- His exceptional accomplishments in the field of Ayurveda have been recognized and accoladed by many reputed organizations. The International Academy of Ayurveda has recognized his excellence in the field of Ayurveda by bestowing him the Kayachikitsa Ratna Award.
Contribution to Propagating Ayurveda at the International Level:- He has also been a driving force behind the global spread of Ayurveda principles and sharing clinical expertise with students worldwide. His travels to Croatia, London, and other parts of Europe have greatly contributed to the education of students about the practice of Ayurveda.
