Place of Birth:- Khandwari, Pauri Garhwal district, Uttarakhand. 
Details of family:- Dr. S.C Dhyani was the cherished son of Sh. Umadutta Dhyani, a respected traditional farmer known for his deep connection to the land, and Smt. Shyama Devi, a devoted homemaker who instilled values of compassion and learning in her children. Growing up in a loving household, he shared his formative years with one elder sister and two younger brothers. In 1954, he entered matrimony with Smt. Indu Devi who stood by him through his academic pursuits and professional endeavors. Together, they nurtured a harmonious family environment, raising two daughters and three sons with a profound emphasis on education, values, and cultural heritage.

1958-61: Lecturer, Dept of Kayachikitsa, Gulabkunwarba Ayurveda College,  Jamnagar  
1961-63: Junior Physician in the first Central Institute for       Research in Indigenous System of Medicine (CIRISM), Jamnagar
1963: Associate Professor, Department of Kayachikitsa, Institute for Ayurvedic Studies and Research, Jamnagar
1972-82: Professor and Head, Department of Dravyaguna, Institute of Post Graduate Teaching & Research in Ayurveda, Jamnagar

As a Researcher:-

Prof. S.C. Dhyani was a pioneering critical researcher in Ayurveda, known for his rigorous analysis and objective evaluations.

  • His significant contributions include the groundbreaking study of Grahani in 1956, where he integrated Ayurvedic and modern scientific perspectives on the digestive system.
  • He advanced Dravyaguna research by bringing objectivity to Rasa (taste), Veerya (potency), and Vipaka (post-digestive effect).
  • His Ph.D. work on the taste threshold of Ayurvedic drugs involved innovative taste threshold experiments.
  • Additionally, he mentored the study on thermodynamic properties of Ayurvedic drugs (Veerya) to understand their physiological impacts.
